A Perfect Heart

Our time is precious, dear Mama's. We only have them but for a season, a quite short season in comparison to the rest of their lives.

What we teach them, what we say and do in front of them, the lessons, the journey, the do's and the don't's, the influences, the things we show them are important and unimportant, all shape who they will become as adults.

If our hope for them, and the generations after them, is to become successful, Christian adults, then we must teach them how. We must teach them in this short, but crucial season, how to fervently love and serve God. Instill in them His word. Show them that in the hard times, we trust God, and in the good times, we praise God.

Take them to church. Show them that there is nothing more important than making it to God's house to sit amongst His people and learn His word. Teach them that church is their place of refuge. It's where they will draw strength to face a dark and weary world. It's where they will build relationships with likeminded people who walk with them on this journey called life.

Teach them through showing them. My one year old raises his hands in praise because he sees Mama doing it. He bows his head in prayer at the dinner table because he sees myself, his father, and sister doing it. When my 8 year old is sick, she asks me to pray for her. Why? Because she already, at 8 years old, knows that she serves a loving Father who will heed her request.

King David prayed this prayer for his son, Solomon: “and give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.”

1 Chronicles‬ ‭29:19‬

King Solomon asked God to give his son a "perfect heart," which means to be entirely dedicated to God. That should be every parents prayer for their children. "Give unto our children a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes." Amen.
