Lament, To Mourn Aloud

Lament: to mourn aloud; to regret strongly. A passionate expression of grief or sorrow.

We mustn't let grief blind what we know to be true of God. He knows we are only human and will express human emotions, but He also expects our faithfulness, even in the darkest of valleys. Job and King David offered prayers of lament, and one key characteristic I noticed in their mourning, they still acknowledged God's goodness. Though they suffered, they knew God would deliver them. That's the beauty of serving Christ. Even in our trials, we are sure of His present help.

“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” Psalm‬ ‭22:1‬ ‭(David)

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Matthew‬ ‭27:46‬ ‭(Jesus on the cross)

“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, And delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivereth him out of them all. The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: And none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭34:17-19, 22‬
